8 GB is the minimum, because the client alone will take 4 GB, and Windows 10 is the lowest supported baseline. Apple silicon MacBooks can run it, while Windows laptops mostly come down to the CPU, and something like a 7840HS is more than enough. Whether the game feels smooth really depends on the CPU. A Core i5 8th gen or Ryzen 5 3000 series and up will be a lot more comfortable. Older hardware is not completely locked out, though. One player can even get into the server on a G4560 with 8 GB RAM and integrated graphics. You just have to tolerate the rough edges.
